Interview with Author Pixie Perkins

I’m so excited for today’s blog post! Pixie Perkins has been one of my closest author friends through this whole journey. I couldn’t be more thankful for her and many others.

Pixie Perkins is the proud author of three sweet YA romance author.

My Boyfriend’s Best Friend

Could her boyfriend’s best friend somehow be her saving grace?

For Brittany Grayson, high school has been nothing but a breeze. And how could it not be when she has the greatest best friends a girl could ask for and she’s dating Blake Henderson, the absolute love of her life—all while being modestly popular?

Her oh-so-perfect world suddenly takes a turn for the worse though when everything starts to fall apart and not knowing what to do, she accepts a highly unexpected offer from Derek Connors…who wants to help Brittany pick up the pieces from her mess of a life.

Dating Blake’s best friend sounds like a crazy idea, but it just might work.

My Fiancé’s Best Friend

Five years later, and Derek Connors is back in her life again…

Newly engaged Brittany is totally fine with Blake wanting Derek to be his best man in their upcoming wedding…after all, they are best friends. And when Brittany spends some time together with Derek, they form their own kind of friendship—causing her to realize just how much she’s actually missed him.

Then, as wedding plans are continually put into motion, it seems like things can’t get any crazier; until Brittany starts having mixed feelings about marrying Blake and she once again turns to Derek for help.

But what if he’s the reason for all of her doubts?

*Being that this is the sequel to My Boyfriend’s Best Friend, it is NOT recommended to read the book as a standalone.*

Truth or Dare

Their paths would’ve never crossed…but fate had another plan in mind.

Madison (Maddie) Connors is awkward, unpopular, and definitely not the type of girl that Josh Oakland usually dates—so why is he asking her to be his girlfriend?

The truth? Because Josh’s best friend dared him to…but he can’t tell her that.

So instead, Josh claims that he doesn’t want to be a player anymore and needs her help to change; and while Madison still has her doubts, she agrees to help him anyway.

Could spending time together turn their relationship into something real? Or will the truth ruin their chances?

One player. One nobody. One dare that changes everything.

*While this book is a My Boyfriend’s Best Friend spin-off, it is NOT required to read My Boyfriend’s Best Friend.*

Interview with Pixie Perkins:

Faith: It’s been a while since the last time I interviewed you. What feels different since publishing two more books?

Pixie: Oh my gosh…so much! For one thing: I feel like I understand this whole “author thing” a lot more, lol. And I’ve connected with some pretty great people, so I don’t feel as isolated/out-of-place like I did before.

Faith: What’s something you learned since My Boyfriend’s Best Friend?

Pixie: Well, probably that I shouldn’t have my characters cut off each other so much while they’re talking. I’ve also learned so much about editing, formatting, and everything else that goes along with being a published author.

Faith: Where do you want to be in a couple more months and/or couple years?

Pixie: I would love to have even more books published (especially paperbacks) and I would also love to reach more readers!!

Faith: Can you tell us something about something you wrote when you first started writing?

Pixie: So, when I was a preteen (one hundred years ago), I had a story called “Katie’s Diary.” I’m pretty sure it was inspired by the fact that I was reading a lot of preteen series and the “Dear America” series, lol. The story had typical preteen drama: crushes, bullies, insecurities, younger siblings, etc.

But. It. Was. So. Cringey.

Faith: Can you tell us something about something you plan to write in the future?

Pixie: There is SO MUCH I have planned to write!!! (I’m BEYOND excited) Lots and lots of ideas. Something in my current WIP (work-in-progress) future, would be my “High School Cupid” series! I’m partially working on the second book (of four) right now and it’s been fun centering the stories around Parkton High’s “anonymous love expert.”

Faith: Do you ever see yourself writing in different genres? (Even though you nail YA)

Pixie: Thank you for the compliment! ❤

Ummmmm, probably some NA romance fiction (which is what My Fiancé’s Best Friend technically is) and contemporary romance in general…I have dabbled a little in writing a “dystopian” story, but nothing serious. I would like to write a mystery series eventually (I loved reading Nancy Drew as a kid, so I think it’d be cool to make my own modern-day “detective”), but I’m not sure if it will be YA or NA.

Faith: Do you think writers have a normal life like other people?

Pixie: Do other people write down almost every street name they see when they’re on a mini-vacation? Do they write down an employee’s name on their deli ticket while they’re at the grocery store? Lol, there are honestly so many similar examples that I could give of what a #writerlife includes (at least mine, anyway)…and because of this, I personally think it’s hard for writers to have completely “normal” lives.

Faith: What writing advice would you give your younger self if you could?

Pixie: Choose present tense! You seriously get confused EVERY TIME you try to write in past tense! And the same goes for writing in first person! You seriously CANNOT write in third person!

Faith: How much of yourself do you put in your novels? Do your characters reflect you or past memories?

Pixie: I think a lot of my characters have little bits of myself, mostly all of the weird/quirky/awkward parts. Andddd probably both!

Faith: If you could pick one song for each book you’ve published or character what songs would you choose?

Pixie: Ah, this is so hard! I know for sure that I’d pick “When There Was Me and You” from High School Musical as the song for My Boyfriend’s Best Friend (specifically relating to how Brittany felt about her breakup with Blake). I’m not entirely sure about the other two…

Faith: What books impacted you the most?

Pixie: The Bible, definitely. And probably all of the books that I read as a kid/preteen, like: American Girl books, The Lily Series, Nancy Drew, etc.

Faith: Do you wake up in the middle of the night with an amazing plot idea only to fall back asleep and not remember it in the morning? (Or is this just me) lol!

Pixie: I’ve had this happen a few times, yes. Usually though, it’s that I have a REALLY inspirational dream and then can’t remember any of it afterward!

Faith: Are any of your characters based off someone you know in real life?

Pixie: Yes! My sisters inspire quite a few of my characters, actually.

Faith: What is the first book that made you emotional/cry?

Pixie: I don’t think there’s been a book that has made me cry…and as terrible as it sounds, I can’t remember a specific one making me feel emotional (in a sad way).

Faith: If you could ask any of your characters a question which character and what would you ask them?

Pixie: Maybe…Tristan? And I’d probably ask him: “How did you know so much about Madison when you chose her for Josh?”

Faith: What character would you want to meet in person? What would you do?

Pixie: Okay, I have to pick Tristan again. He’s just such a funny character, lol. I guess we could hang out at the beach? Maybe he could teach me how to surf??

Faith: Which character is most like you?

Pixie: As of right now…probably Brittany. She has her sassy moments, but she’s kind of random/weird for the most part and that’s totally me.

Faith: Do you ever feel the same feelings your character does in a scene?

Pixie: I feel like I do sometimes. If they’re swooning, I probably am too. And if they’re annoyed, I usually am too.

Thanks Pixie for this amazing interview! Feel free to beg me to do another anytime. 😉 lol!
